The University of Oregon earned a lot of celebrity attention this last week. Both Jimmy Fallon and Ellen DeGeneres reached out through social media to support the Oregon Ducks! Twitter has become an extremely popular social media tool, especially among celebrities. For those of you who are unfamiliar with Twitter, it is a social media outlet where people post constant updates about their lives or things they have learned, similar to Facebook statuses. Through Twitter, many people follow their favorite celebrities to get a feel for what they do on a day-to-day basis.
This last week, Jimmy Fallon and Ellen DeGeneres tweeted to the Oregon Ducks. Their tweets became viral through out the U of O campus and everyone was talking about it. Jimmy Fallon told everyone who goes to U of O to watch his show on Thursday night for a surprise! The next night during his show, he had Sebastian Bach perform the "Duck's Power Ballad". This song can be found on YouTube and will definitely get anyone excited for the National Championship Game.
It gets even better. Ellen DeGeneres told her followers to meet at the Erb Memorial Union on Thursday afternoon wearing their best Fiesta gear. I of course had to go because my roommates and I watch Ellen's show every day. Needless to say, there were a couple thousand people at the EMU dressed in their greatest Fiesta gear. Ellen's crew picked the top ten costume winners and they had to change the lyrics to the Oregon fight song and perform it for Ellen. The winner won tickets to the BCS National Championship and the runner-up won tickets to the Ellen DeGeneres show.
It's such an exciting time for U of O and I can't wait for the game tomorrow!
