Welcome to Winter Term

Tori M.

January 2, 2011 - 11:30 PM

After a relaxing and exciting Winter Break, I am finally in Eugene! It is great to be back with my roommates and all of my friends. It's strange to think that this time next year I won't be within walking distance from my friends. I guess that means there will be more places I can visit in the near future!

I always look forward to getting organized before the start of a term. I cleaned my room and kitchen and am currently doing laundry. Off to a great start this far! I look forward to meting my professors and learning more about my classes tomorrow.

Here's to my last winter term at the U of O! Let the good times roll.

Winter Term is a week away!

Choosing classes before the start of your freshman year is easy because most people are unaware of what their major will be so there are a variety of classes to choose from. Also, there are many general education requirements to complete so choosing classes is fairly easy. As a senior, there are specific classes I need to take to complete my major and sometimes it is hard to register for them. Luckily, my advisors have always been helpful in making sure I take the correct courses.

For my last winter term at the University of Oregon, I will be taking three journalism classes and my last literature requirement. I am a little nervous for my literature class because it involves poetry, so I will definitely have to tap into my creative side.

I will also be very busy with Ad Team and participating in my sorority's events. I am definitely looking forward to beginning 2011 and for everything it has in store!

New Years Eve in the City

December 26, 2010 - 4:00 PM

I am very excited because tomorrow I leave for Chicago! I love to travel and I am excited I will be able to add another city to the list of places I have been. My cousin moved from San Diego to Chicago about two years ago. I have been meaning to make a trip out to visit him and now I finally have the chance!

My cousin is going to show me all of the main sights, take me shopping and I even get to visit his office. He works for a digital marketing agency, ICrossing. Because I have been interning with a digital marketing agency, I am looking forward to learning about a new one. I am lucky enough to go out with his boss to lunch while I'm there (wish me luck!).

I will definitely have an update on my trip after I return. Until then, I hope everyone has a fun and safe New Years Eve! It's almost 2011, the year I graduate! I can't believe it!

On the Rocks-The Sing-Off!

December 19, 2010 - 6:32 PM

This fall has been a very exciting time for the U of O campus. Not only will the Ducks be competing for the National Championship title on January 10th, but U of O a cappella group, On The Rocks, has been competing on NBC's The Sing-Off.

I am a huge fan of On the Rocks. My roommates and I go to the EMU every Friday at 4 p.m. to watch them perform. I love their performances because not only do they sound amazing, but they have fun and entertaining choreography to go along with each performance!

The show began December 6th and unfortunately On the Rocks did not win, but they did make it into the top 5! How exciting! They performed a variety of numbers including their famous Lady GaGa "Bad Romance" rendition and a medley of Elton John music. It was amazing to see On The Rocks represent our school on national television.

The show was really fun to watch because I was involved with choir in high school so I have a special place in my heart for performing arts. The Sing-Off is still on and you can check out the remaining teams every Monday and Wednesday at 8 p.m.

Winter Break Internship

Tori M.

December 19, 2010 - 6:20 PM

I have been having a wonderful winter break so far. It's been great to catch up with old friends and have some time to read something other than a textbook. This break has been a little different than past ones because I have been interning at a digital marketing agency in Portland called AdPearance.

I learned about the internship from a friend who graduated from the U of O two years ago. They say networking is key and that is exactly what I did. I contacted her about the internship and she helped me to get an interview. It's great to have fellow ducks on my side!

I have learned a ton in a very short amount of time! I have been briefed on all of their services, helped put together a market analysis for a potential client and monitored their social media accounts. My co-workers are what really make the experience worthwhile. They are so generous and willing to help answer any questions I may have. I was even able to attend the office Christmas party which was a fantastic time! I am so grateful for this opportunity and everything I have been learning. I am looking forward to taking what AdPearance has taught me and applying it to my course work.
